24.08.08 Lochside home
The opening game of the season is always a nervy affair or at least it normally is. The West had not played Lochside at 11 aside and we were unsure what to expect. The West started the better team and after 15 minutes it was clear that if we played to our potential we would win this game. All credit to the boys they played some excellent football and apart from two sloppy goals conceded the West controlled the first half coming in 5-2 up. We changed things about at half time and again credit to the boys despite ongoing changes throughout the second half we continued to dominate and eventually ran out 13-2 winners. This was a good team performance with all 14 players playing extremely well. Despite this I do need to point out that Lemo managed to miss an open goal passing the ball past the post from 4 yards out and Blaine who scored a cracker last week in a friendly (his first goal for many years) managed to miss two penalties. Blaine’s first penalty miss even managed to make the ref and the opposition players laugh, Blaine slipped as he went to kick the ball, he landed on the penalty spot and the ball landed past the post, his second was a far better penalty but the keeper made a great save, not your day Blaine!!. Goals scored by Liam 4, Gus 1, Lemo 2, Marc 1, Jamie 1, Haydn 1, and Dale 3.
