Dundee West FC is
one of the most respected clubs in the Dundee & District Youth
FA and was established in 1985. The club started out with a
small group of players who had previously played for Dundee West
Labour BC who had disbanded in 1984. Another Sunday boys team
East End Boys joined in the same year thus forming the first
ever Dundee West football teams. A committee was formed which
took these players into the U/11 and U/12 leagues.
Every year
thereafter a new Dundee West side was started and by 1995, the
club enjoyed a team in every age group of the Dundee based
league. Today the club has almost 200 kids between the ages of
8-16 playing across 8 different age groups. At one time the West
even had a team playing in the Midlands amateur league. The club
has its own clubrooms and changing facilities and the provision
of indoor training during the winter the months.
The West have won
many cups and leagues over the years, in addition to winning the
Scottish Cup which was achieved by the U/17's girls team in
season 2006/07 after being runners up in the previous season. A
boys team have also contested in a Scottish Cup Final but lost
narrowly so it still remains the clubs aim to achieve national
success in the boys leagues.
Many very talented
players have played for the West and have gone on to become
professional footballers. Other players, of course, are content
to just have fond memories of playing for the club.
Some of the players
from the earlier days have returned to the club to assist in
coaching and running the teams with ex-players now on the
executive committee.
Based mainly in the
Ardler, St Marys, Downfield & Kirkton area of Dundee, the club
has grown over the years and played a big part in bringing
people and families of the community together. The club has also
contributed to many worthwhile causes throughout the community
over the years.
Dundee West has made
many friends through their wide range of areas played in, not
only in the UK but also abroad in places such as Holland and
France.
We also have a very
healthy working relationship with Councillor for Ardler & Leader
of the Administration Kevin Keenan, and MP for Dundee West Jim
McGovern.
Dundee West is
affiliated to the Scottish Youth Football Association (SYFA) and
adheres to both the SYFA Constitution and Player Protection
Policy. Dundee West also has their own constitution, set of
Standing Orders and hold monthly committee meetings. The
Executive Committee consists of President, Vice-President,
Secretary, Treasurer & Player Protection Officer.
Aims
The aim of the club
is to provide a safe and fun environment for kids to learn and
practice their football skills and techniques. We also encourage
parents, family and friends to come along, enjoy the kids’
football and support ‘The West’.
Committee & Team
Each team has at
least 2 committee members which consist of a qualified Coach for
that age of football as well as a First Aider.
Each team also has Public &
Liability Insurance as well as Personal Injury Insurance for the
kids.
All
Committee Members are vetted by Disclosure Scotland and are
given guidelines on how to behave towards children.
We are frequently visited by the
Football Development Officer for Dundee who checks to make sure
things are ticking along nicely and we are currently trying to
achieve Quality Mark status where the club has to meet certain
criteria set out by the SFA.
